Festival Description
Welcome to 2023 ETAR! Dates for this year are July 27-30, 2023, and the location will be Ski Sawmill Family Resort again and for the foreseeable future. We had an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the move from Denton Hill to Ski Sawmill, and are happy to be holding our event on private property. There is quite a bit more open land for camping, parking, and lodging, as well as many local lodging and dining options nearby. The courses have been redesigned and the property continues to be upgraded to bring you a great shoot and enjoyable experience. Thank you all for your continued support and patience during the transition to the new location.
FAQ’s:
- How many courses and ranges will you have?
- We have three ranges and seven courses, including our kids’ course. We’ve expanded some of our existing courses and added a new course on the property of Oregon Hill Winery, right next door.
- Will you still have the same variety of vendors and bowyers that Denton Hill was known for?
- Yes! Last year we had over 100 spaces filled and plan to do the same this year.
- Will you run the chairlift?
- This last year has and continues to be challenging as we navigate changes not only to our physical location of venue but also the evolving environments within the workplace, employee shortages, supplier shortages, inflation, and so on. We are not complaining, but do want to be transparent about the challenges we face as we continue to plan for another great year. This year with all the changes and variables outside our control we feel it important to focus on the main things and doing those main things well. Because of this, we feel this is not going to be the year for us to be able to run the chairlift for the event.Running the chairlift for the festival will involve about a month or more of extra maintenance, and fairly expensive inspections and modifications for to allow for foot traffic. We would have to completely change the layout of the mountain courses, which in turn only allow those that ride the lift up to use those courses, which at Denton was definitely a source of frustration for those not wanting to pay the extra money, etc. We could go on and on but our intent is only to give you a glimpse of some of the behind-the-scenes that go into a decision like this. The chairlift is not out of the question for the future by any means just right now with what we are facing we feel it’s not feasible.
- How early can we arrive to set up camp?
- You can set up as early as Saturday, July 22, 2023.
- When will you update the schedule and vendor list?
- We will update the schedule as we receive confirmation on seminars, etc.
- We will update vendors after their March 31st deadline, and continuing thereafter.
- How can I become a vendor at ETAR?
- There is still a waiting list for new vendors. Please click here to submit an inquiry.
- We start opening up the approval process for new vendors on March 31, 2023

2023 Featured Speakers and Demonstrations

Seminars and Demonstrations
Thursday: Tom Bergstue from Mountain Cabin Outdoors (Thursday and Saturday @5:00pm outside of the lodge.)
“Calling Game Within Bow Range” This presentation will cover advanced techniques in calling game, with demonstration and live recordings. The seminar will include conversational communication, what to say and what not to say. Setup along with demonstration of proven calls targeting deer, boar, predators and turkeys that persuade wildlife to commit, plus lots of giveaways!
Friday @5pm: “TWENTY-ONE BOW SALUTE’ for our friend G. Fred Asbell, author, speaker, and archery hall of famer. Anyone who would like to honor Fred and the impact that he’s had on you personally and the impact that he’s had on the traditional archery community as a whole, please attach a message or a name to your personal arrow. We will have some brief words and then shoot the arrows into the air towards a target up the hill. We’ll collect the arrows and give them to Theresa Asbell as a gift and a tribute to Fred.
Friday: Fireworks Display @9:15pm, weather permitting. If rain is in the forecast for Saturday night, we’ll plan to do the fireworks on Saturday.
Saturday: Monty Browning, Author and Traditional Bowhunter (@5:00pm outside of the lodge in speaker tent.)
“DIY Moose Hunting in Alaska” Monty will be present in the big tent all week long for book signings and story tellings!
